Tamar
Lawrence-Samuel

Lead Designer

For more than 15 years, Tamar has skillfully guided clients across industries in bringing about uniquely tailored and successful organizational transformations. She supports philanthropies, companies and organizations with expertise in communications, management, strategic planning, systems building, policy, community engagement, DEI, design, facilitation, and change management.

Tamar enjoys getting to the root of complex problems, and co-creating solutions. Starting with an in-depth assessment phase, she has designed full-scale transformation strategies including recruiting and supporting DEI committees, shifting culture, redesigning HR and other systems, communicating with staff and to the world, designing and facilitating learning, building capacity and coaching leaders along the way.

A savvy strategist with a unique combination of expertise, language skills, and varied lived and work experience, Tamar’s work has resulted in large-scale change for social justice and racial equity across continents. For example, as the international policy director for Corporate Accountability, she designed a unique climate justice campaign deeply rooted in antiracism and power analysis, and aimed at ensuring serious regulation of fossil fuel producing industries along with a network of international allies. The campaign advanced lifesaving policy change at the international level, strategically moving world leaders to join forces to strengthen international environmental regulations at the United Nations climate negotiations leading up to and beyond the Paris Climate Agreement negotiations.

Half Eritrean and half American, Tamar grew up in Switzerland and France, is a native French and Amharic speaker, and has lived, worked, and traveled all around the world. She now lives in Takoma Park, Maryland, with her partner and child.
